Ardent Seeds was established in 1979, growing seed crops on the family 250 ha mixed farming property, “Meldon Park” at Oaks in the North of Tasmania. In 1992, Ardent Seeds commenced cleaning seed for their own and contract crops and made the transition to a specialised seed production and cleaning operation. Robert and Jane Dent continue the tradition of producing high quality grass, grain and legume seeds for the Australian and export markets.

First settled in 1833, the Oaks district is situated on the lower reaches of the Liffey River in the central north of Tasmania with a backdrop of the Great Western Tiers to the south and the Ben Lomond, Mt Barrow and Mt Arthur to the east.

Ardent Seeds takes advantage of Tasmania’s ideal growing climate and applies innovation to the latest in seed growing and handling technology to produce seeds to the highest quality specifications.

We farm with minimal impact on our environment through the safe use of chemicals and fertilisers to conserve our soil, water and wildlife.

A Nuffield farming scholar, Robert regularly travels overseas with Jane to keep abreast of the latest developments and innovative practices to produce seed for the pastures and crops that Ardent Seeds’ customers require for livestock and cereal production.
